SSL certificate expiry monitoring

An expired certificate turns your site into a browser warning page, and it usually happens on a weekend nobody remembered the renewal. Halvyn reads the certificate your server is actually presenting on every check and warns you days ahead.

What Halvyn checks

  • The live certificate your HTTPS endpoint presents, read on every check — not a copy of what you think is installed
  • Days left until expiry, plus the issuer, subject, issue date, expiry date and SHA-256 fingerprint on the monitor’s detail page
  • Warning thresholds you choose in days; they default to 30, 14 and 7
  • One alert per threshold crossed, so a certificate close to expiry does not spam the channel on every check
  • Alerts to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, webhooks, SMS, voice and on-call rotations
  • The same HTTP monitor also checks status, response time, keywords and redirects, so one monitor covers the site and its certificate

Common uses

  • Public sites and APIs on HTTPS
  • Certificates that renew by hand or through a script that can silently fail
  • Staging and customer-facing subdomains that are easy to forget
  • Agencies tracking many client sites

Included with every monitor

One incident per outage

Repeated failures roll into a single incident with a timeline, instead of a flood of duplicate alerts.

Blip recheck

A failed check is re-run within the same cycle before it counts, and an incident opens only after consecutive failures — a single network blip never pages anyone.

Escalation until acknowledged

Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Google Chat, webhooks, SMS, voice calls and on-call rotations — with one-click acknowledge links in every alert.

Incident management

Investigating → identified → monitoring → resolved states, assignees, comments, SLA timers per severity and postmortems.

Public status pages

Uptime bars, live incidents and manual updates on a page you can put on your own domain.

Maintenance windows

Checks keep running during planned work but alerts stay quiet, so your history stays complete.

SLOs and monthly SLA reports

Track objectives per monitor and email an uptime report to owners every month.

Flat pricing

One price per plan, with every check type on paid plans (browser checks on the higher plans) — no per-host, per-check or per-feature metering.

Frequently asked questions

How do I monitor an SSL certificate with Halvyn?
Create an HTTP monitor for your https:// URL. Certificate expiry is read on each check; there is nothing extra to switch on.
How far ahead are warnings sent?
By default at 30, 14 and 7 days before expiry. You can set your own list of days on the monitor.
Does this replace domain expiry monitoring?
No. The certificate and the domain registration expire separately. Halvyn has a separate domain monitor that reads the registration expiry from the registry.
